Comic Book Cover Background Color

Are we having fun yet?

YAY, my tablet's back and working! So I could get back to work on this thing! JOY!

But don't get too excited. Some "stuff" has just come up that's gonna require my full attention, and until it's resolved, I won't have time to do much drawing. So even though my tablet's fixed, it'll still be awhile before I can get back to having something new posted every week.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will be with you shortly.

Shiina and David

A g-g-g-GIRL!

More sketches of a couple of characters in my Scary School drawing.

The girl is Shiina, which is a name I really don't like anymore. I want her to be Asian, and thus an asian name, but I can't remember why I chose the name Shiina specifically. What's another good Asian name? Anyway, she's the f*cking serious one of the group, rarely showing a great amount of emotion

The ghost that hangs out in her backpack is David, named after a friend from high school. He's is not the f*cking serious one of the group, but rather the f*cking crazy one. But he's funny crazy, not evil crazy. I imagine most of the comic relief coming from him, mostly by picking on Reason, who is, unlike the rest of the group, not used to the whole paranormal stuff and is scared easily.

Anyway, these two come in a pair, as some of the comedy comes from them being dead opposites. Despite that, they feel the need to be around each other for some reason that I haven't fleshed out yet. Though David died in his late teens in an insane asylum, he could have dead for a long while, so maybe he was friends with one of Shiina's relatives from a few generations back or something. Idano, I'm just throwing ideas out.

If fighting or a lot of action in general were required in this story, it would come from these two. They both know how to fight (hence Shiina's wooden sword/poor example of forced prospective), and I also had a gimmick idea that I stole from Shaman King where David could posses Shiina or anyone else in the group if they need to fend for themselves and needed to know kung-fu real quick like.

Humanoid EVE

And I'm Humanoid WALL•E. Yes, I am. You shut up.

As I've shown before on this blog, not only do I have an unhealthy crush on Tinker Bell, but also EVE from WALL•E. So I drew this a while back, I guess in some creepy attempt to say it's okay for me to like a robot shaped like an upside down egg.

Disney Merchandise Girl 2

Crocs are so lame.

The second Disney merchandise girl I drew, this one after our 2008 trip to Disney World. Although, really, it's just a bunch of those Mickey silhouettes everywhere. And shorts that seem to be several sizes too big.

Gingerbread, Man

I'm just sayin', don't make it edible if you don't want me to eat it.

Well, this is the last Disney World 2010 comic. We got back Saturday and slept for about 16 hours after crying ourselves to sleep.

If you were following me on Twitter, or were also at Disney World during the Holiday season, you would have seen that they really did make giant gingerbread constructions, including houses, a tree, and a carousel. I'm not even a huge fan of gingerbread, but I felt compelled to eat them anyway simply because they could be.

And now for something completely different.

My Wacom Cintiq tablet has been on the fritz lately. I assume it's a loose wire, because depending on how the cord bends, it often gives the screen a green hue, and other times makes the screen go off completely. That means I gotta send it to Wacom to get it fixed, which means I'll be lacking a tablet for 2 to 4 weeks, which means I won't be able to make anything nice to post for 2 to 4 weeks. I may do some sketching, but probably nothing worth doing a blog post about. I'll probably take the lazy route and use the extra time to catch up on some video game save files that have been sitting idle for some time.

Sad face.

I Didn't do It

You can't prove I did anything.

We actually got back from EPCOT today, hence the lateness of this post. We've done everything except the Animal Kingdom so far, and we're really digging the stuff they do exclusively for Christmas. The Very Merry Christmas event in the Magic Kingdom was particularly fun.

Although the best part so far has been meeting Remmy.

RIP, Raymond

I'm sure a lawsuit from Batman is coming.

I'm posting this from Orlando, Florida right now, although we haven't been to any Disney World parks yet. We have been on the Disney World property though, having visited a few of the resorts and Downtown Disney. I believe we're going to our first park tomorrow, when we visit Magic Kingdom during their Very Merry Christmas dealie. Should be fun.

I Heart Tink (aka Disney World 2010 Begins)

People, that's my other arm and hand under the blanket. Don't even try it.

Dat's right, we're going on our next mostly annual trip to Disney World. Although not quite yet, we'll be leaving later this week. So if you wanna come, you still got time (if you can pay your way, provide your own transportation, and we don't hate you). We've always gone in the Summer before, but we wanted to try it later in the year at least once so we can see how they pretty up the place for Christmas. As with last year, I'll be making stupid comics and tweeting about it while we're there.

Gorillaz Evangelist Character Design Contest

Evangelistic.

The above link will send you right to my entry for the Gorillaz Evangelist art contest. Here's a link to the main page of the contest, which describes what it is they want you to draw. Basically, they want the Evangelist to be the opposing force of their Boogieman villain that's been causing trouble for the band in their latest Plastic Beach chapter. Other than that description, it's pretty open.

I immediately thought of the Boogieman being from Hell and the Evangelist being from heaven, so I thought to make him look like a singer who died famously, and John Lennon fits that bill pretty well. At first, I thought of giving him the Beatles haircut, but that made him look like Austin Powers, so I went with his "hippy" look. That worked out pretty well, as it also gave my design a bit of a Jesus look, which fits right with the heaven and hell thing.

Then again, that along with the leisure suit kinda makes him look like a Bee Gee...

So if you hate the Bee Gees, you can go to the voting page and vote for what you do like. In fact, you can vote for as many different entries as you like.

Comic Book Cover Character Ink and Background Color Progress

Moving on.

Okay, I think I'm finally done drawing the characters. The muscles do look a bit better than they did when I first started although some of it's still a bit off, like the bottom right henchman's legs. But I can't stand much more of it, so I'm gonna move on to the coloring phase. In fact I already started:

No, the buildings won't be see-through. I just didn't get to them yet. I think I'm gonna be a hypocrite and use that orange and teal palette that I hate seeing so much in movies. It's not a bad palette, it's just that Hollywood uses it way to much. But I'm not Hollywood. So Ima use it.

Comic Book Cover Character Ink Progres 3

FALCON KICK.

Even thought the characters are all inked out now, I'm still gonna call this a "progress" update. I recently got a book with much better muscle references than what I had used before, so I'm gonna double check what I've done so far. What I assume will happen is that I'll discover my muscle placement is crap and will have to redo most of the inks.

I gotta learn somehow.

Comic Book Cover Character Ink Progres 2

Are we having fun yet?

Another progress report on this fake comic cover. I find myself going back to parts I had already inked, thinking, "Wait, that muscle doesn't look quite right." If it isn't obvious, this is gonna take me a while. At least most of the ink is done, the only thing left being the kid with the bionic legs and the henchman he's Falcon Kicking.

Zombie John and Phillip

WARNING! These two images are pretty bloody and gross in general. If you particularly hate stuff like that, do us both a favor and don't look at them.

I wanted to draw something for Halloween, and I figured I could do zombie versions of John and me. I usually don't make stuff this graphic, but I figured that if I'm gonna draw some zombies, I'm gonna draw some Godd@mn zombies.

...Wait a minute! I can't eat brains without a jaw! Zombie Phillip FAIL.

New Jackie Chan Adventures

Well, not really. But I can dream, can't I?

A while back, I tweeted that the Jackie Chan Adventures cartoon should be brought back, and Victoria, Jackie's awesome assistant, should be a new character. Then she actually responded and asked what she would look like. I doubt she meant for me to draw someting, but, I mean, c'mon! How could I not draw something?! So here's this sketch.

LA and ZY are cartoon versions of actual toy pandas that Jackie and Victoria carry around with on their travels. They often take pictures of them next to historical locations and whatnot.

If you don't follow Jackie Chan and Victoria on Twitter already, I highly suggest you do. They always talk about the interesting places they travel to and all the great movie and charity work that Jackie does.

Super Mario Bros.

Guest appearance by Yoshi.

Here's the final image of the Mario Bros. pic I made as a gift for my little second cousin. You all know about Mario Bros., so there's not much to talk about.

OH, I can talk about the Yoshi, which wasn't in the sketch. My cousin (the second cousin's mom) asked if I could throw him in there but I didn't have much room left. So he became a tiny Yoshi in the background coming out of the pipe. Seems weird to do that, especially with a Piranha Plant right next to him that isn't coming out of a pipe, but whatever.

Long, climbable Piranha Plants can come out of blocks, you know.

Super Mario Bros. sketch

He's after dat cheddar... coin... monetary unit...

I got a commission from my cousin to make a Mario Bros. drawing for her son, who currently is in non-stop Super Mario mode. All he ever talks about is New Super Mario Bros. and how you gotta beat Petey Piranha as Mini Mario to unlock World 7. And I personally hope he never gets tired of it.

So anyway, here's the sketch of the composition. I've already put this in Photoshop and got the background done, but that would be a bit of a bore to show without the characters in it. So you hafta wait until it's all done before you get to see it.

Batman Kirbys

Why not?

*UPDATE*
Cuz Liana's good idea is a good idea.
