Criminals

He's packin' net, with his punk @$s.

It took me forever to draw the background in the second panel, and it still looks feh. I'm gonna get good at this one of these days.

It's kinda funny that the tool that would do the least amount of damage in real life is the only one that you can hit people or animals with in the game. I tend to use a bug net on neighbors that get in my way when I'm trying to get money out of rocks or running from bees. I also use it in the game.

I'm Hanging Up Now

Blur and magic wand ftw.

I made this when Dad wanted iPhone wallpaper of John with his hoity toity iPhone 3G, the phone that makes him spit at the regular iPhone owning riff raff such as Dad and I.

This is the image before I reduced it to iPhone dimensions. I drew John as he looks when I've observed him talking to a certain someone. A certain someone that shall remain anonymous for the sake of his and my well being.

Bird's Eye View

Why have I never used the magic wand and gradient tools before?

I think Hopper's gonna be my go to guy from now on in these comics. All the other animals in my town are coming and going, so there isn't any reason to put much attention on them. But I like Hopper, so he's staying. I'd also like Peanut and any robot characters to move in too, in which case I'd also give them more attention and more roles. I heard there's a robot frog. I'm gonna change his catch phrase to "affirmative."

Finally, robotic frogs rule the world.

Bug, Eyes

I have nightmares about those eyes.

I feel heartache and disappointment that Blathers is no longer fixated on how one should prepare and eat the fish that you donate to the museum. Those were some of the funniest speeches in the last game. I guess Nintendo figured that's Chip the fishing tourney judge's shtick now. But he's got no finesse! He just eats it raw! Then he burps!

*Studio audience laughter*

No, it's not that funny! Blathers went into great detail on how each individual fish should be consumed. Now that was funny.

I Know a Human Boy About Your Age

If he's not sleeping, he's forgetting.

Tortimer, Tom, the Able Sisters. They're in every player's town, yet they have the same name and say and do the same things. Are they all the same person? We can't assume one player's town goes on as if other towns don't exist, because you can travel to other towns. Towns that also have Tortimer, Tom, etc. So are there several of these characters? If so, do they know about their clones living in other towns? If the Tom Nook in my town of Pastel ran into the Tom Nook of Beth's town of Sydney, would they be all like, "Hey good lookin'," and think nothing of it? Or would they be both amazed and terrified that there is a living double of themselves, gather all the other Nooks from all the Animal Crossing towns in the world, and start a horrible Planet of the Tom Nook's?! In my opinion, almost certainly yes.

Phillip runs out the door and screeches away in his car.

Fast Food Franchises Aint S#@*

Headline: Man Yells at Clown

I found out by accident that Tom can go back to previous versions of his shop depending on how you answer a certain question. Does anybody find that useful? I don't see why you wouldn't want to keep the bigger shop with more stuff to buy. And what about Timmy and Tommy? Were they fired because Tom didn't need them in a smaller store? Will I have to go through the rest of my life with this horrible guilt, knowing that because of my answer to Tom's vague question I've put two upstanding tanukis, who've bared no ill will to anyone, out of job, a job that was most likely their only source of income? Will this weeping of burning tears of culpability never cease?

Nah, I'm sure they'll be fine.

Basements Aint S#@*

But flags are.

I wish I could buy the other houses in town that are reserved for other players. No one else is gonna play this game on my Wii, why let those vacant houses just sit there?

I'll be like, "A basement? How about four basements, mutha f@&%*#!"

Pansies

HA! Metaphors.

Oh boy! My first comic that only makes sense if you've read a certain previous comic! Which is this one.

Ed looks rather effeminate for a male jock character. Long eyelashes, purple eyeliner. I remember Birdo in the instruction book for Super Mario Bros. 2 was described as a being guy who puts on a bow cuz he thinks he's a girl, so maybe it's another Nintendo thing.

Wait. If Birdo was a guy, how did it spit out eggs?

Please Leave

Personally, I say one sheep is too many.

No, really. When the new Pastel started out, there were three sheep characters in town! Three! But two eventually moved, and, recently, so did Joey. I use to hate it when animals left in Wild World, but now I'm hoping they'll move to make room for the ones I grew attached to in the last game. You can complain about the animals in town hall, why not make one of the options to request that they move?

Or maybe you could threaten them with bug nets. Animals don't seem to like those.

Snow, Man

Dirtman. Hm. Sounds like a Mega Man boss.

I know the snow in Animal Crossing has been gone for a while now (on February 25th, it disappears all instantaneous like), but I figured all the stuff that happened in the previous comics would happen in one day.

You may have noticed with the DS and Jack Skelington sweaters that I try not to give my Animal Crossing comic self designs that originated from the game. Since it promotes creating your own designs, I figure I'd draw clothing artwork that I've made or would make in the game, which is obviously fan art of other franchises. I'm gonna try to have a different one for each comic, but I'm sure I'll run out of ideas pretty quickly and hate myself for even attempting.

The Bees, Part 2

Wait, didn't I hear this joke on The Simpsons?

You know what? I lied when I said bees were the only protagonists in Animal Crossing. I forgot about the tarantulas and scorpions. They stare you down before they decide to charge at you and f**k up your s**t. Heck, if they bite or sting you, you actually pass out and reawaken inexplicably in front of your house. Kinda like what happens with Wall Masters. I guess it's a Nintendo thing.

I'm still more scared of bees though. You run into them a lot more and they leave your face horribly mutilated. They must be stopped.

Llost

WARNING This comic contains foul language. If you take that kinda stuff seriously, then don't read. If you're like me and you think cursing is juvenile and hilarious, then read away.

Yet another strip written by my brother, then drawn by me as he sits back with his feet on the table and drinks champagne. Too much champagne, apparently. I personally don't get so "confused and angry" about Lost, as I don't make any attempt whatsoever to watch it. I suggest to John that he does the same.

The new guy is Bob. He's... like... fat, and stuff.

The Fairer Sex

Not that kind of sex. Perv.

With the exception of that sketch of EVE, this blog is sorta becoming a sausage fest, so I put in a couple of drawings of girls... also in sketch form. I drew these in my little 3.5 x 5 inch sketch book of fun that I bring with me to work.

First one's some curvy gal who's cold, simply cuz it was cold at the time at wherever the hell it is I live. That's about as deep as that gets.

Next is Coraline, cuz Coraline's teh awesome, both her and the movie in general. I assume the book is awesome too, but I never read it, and I'm pretty sure I never will. Whenever a story comes out in different formats, I tend to be biased toward whichever a watch/read first. This is especially the case with Coraline, since I'm even more biased toward animated movies. Even though the book came first, if I read it, I'll be all like, "Meh, the movie's better," and maybe throw the book into the fire.

In this sketch, I made her look somewhat tense, which in the end, I can't tell if I like or not. Even with all the bad stuff that happens to her in the movie, she's quite resilient throughout, which is one reason why I find her character so likable. Maybe I just wanted a reason for her clench her skirt in a cute way like that. Whatever, moving on.

Oh, that cat... feh. I gotta practice drawing animals that aren't anthropomorphic.

The Bees, Part 1

The horror.

Ah, Animal Crossing bees. The only adversaries in the game, and maybe the most relentless and unforgiving adversaries in gaming history. They will not bend, they will not break. The only things that will stop their unquenchable thirst for virtual blood are a door or a ridiculously well timed bug net swipe. I pray to God that you are near a door.

Secret Content

Oh! Tom Nook! And he's a tanuki! I get it!

I really wish working for Tom Nook were something you could do for the entire time you play Animal Crossing, rather than just being a short tutorial. You could stop whenever you want if you grow tired of it, then get rehired as many times as you want. Plus, for a veteran like me who always wants to see new stuff, being a gofer (the title, not the animal) for Tom could open a bunch of new stuff for Nintendo to mess with it they went beyond the simple mail this letter, plant these flowers, etc kind of tasks.

But I don't wanna put up new shingles. Motion controls do not make hammering fun.

A Pin Monkey's Guide to Bowler Hand Gestures

You pick this stuff up pretty quickly.

It can also mean the women's bathroom toilet is clogged.

4x4

I could have sworn new houses were 5x5 square spaces...

You may notice I put a copyright symbol on this one, which I haven't done before cuz in my lack of knowlege, I thougt you had to go to some place and talk to some person before you could copyright stuff, until my Dad told me that everyone can copyright as long as they truly originally made it, and recommended that I start doing it with my drawings. And now that I'm gonna be pulling copyrights out the wazoo, that means it's time for more disclaimers! YAY!!

First of all, I'll make things easy and say that all the comics and artwork presented on this blog are officially copyrighted as of 2009 (all rights reserved) by me, even the previous ones that don't have a copyright symbol on it, unless I actually get some gift art from other people at some point and post it, in which case, I'll make it clear that it isn't my work. In the case of the pictures of artwork other than the comics, the art that is the main focus of the picture is what I copyright, not any of the other stuff that may be sitting around in the background.

Second, in the case of the comics I draw with the Animal Crossing theme, I copyright those only as fan art, meaning the copyright (all rights reserved) says that I originally made these comics, but I did not originally make the characters, settings, etc., and claim no ownership to them. All characters, settings, etc. that originally came from the Animal Crossing video games are copyrighted and/or trademarked by Nintendo, seeing as, you know, Animal Crossing was originally conceived and created by Nintendo.

Third, I'll go ahead and say that the Ironic Commando comic pages are copyrighted as of 2009 (all rights reserved) to not only me, but also the writer, John Craig, but again, it is only copyrighted as fanart, and the copyright only says that we originally created that comic. We claim no ownership to the Bionic Commando franchise, nor do we claim ownership to the character Nathan Spencer, as those are owned by Capcom.

Okay, take a deep breath. We square? You catch my drift? Y'namean? Good.

Prove you digg Ironic Commando

My brother was nice enough to post the Ironic Commando comic at Digg.com. I don't know much about the site, but I assume it's a good thing. You dugg it? Then go to http://digg.com/xbox/Ironic_Commando_comic/ and say you digg it. Or you could hit that "digg story" text that magically appeared at the bottom of this post. HA! Dig-Dug!

The Complete Ironic Commando

Now with a shiny, new, less sucky sixth page!

I figured putting all the pages together would make for an easier read. I apologize for the way my blog is putting my text along the side of the pages. If there's a way to put my typing below the pages, I don't know how. The new pages came when John said we had to give the title screen it's own page and "ham up" the the "NOO00!!1" part. Plus, it no longer looks like Nathan is telling the reader to stop in the name of love (check the post a couple weeks back to see the old version if ya don't know what I'm talkin about). Even though the comic isn't that long, I can see my drawing skill ever so slightly improving as I read them all together like this. No major improvements, it just went from feh to meh, but that's better than nothing.

CH-CH-CHANGES!

Sorry for the mislead, but this comic has nothing to do with David Bowie.

I guess the comic is pretty much the same visually, but a Cintiq makes a world of difference. If ya don't know what I'm talking about, the Cintiq is a tablet that has a screen for the touch pad, unlike my previous tablet that was blank and you had to watch the computer screen to see how you were doing. My Photoshop sessions go by a little quicker now, but more importantly, it just feels more natural when you can see the work associated directly to the tablet pen.

I wonder if Wacom will send me endorsements?
